Like it was mentioned in a previous blog post, although YWAM is a Christian organization in love with Jesus and missions, there’s no need to dress or act like a mid-20th century ultra-conservative Orthodox Christian when you’re here. As YWAM Kona and Community Transformations, we truly value the diversity of how God individually made you and encourage everyone to express that in what they do and wear (also it’s warm here and wearing shorts is just kind of a necessary thing a lot of the time).
So as long as you’re not wearing anything that’s too nonexistent or culturally insensitive, feel free to bring your favorite pair of mauve velvet gauchos or gilded platform sandals and step up the fashion game here on campus. We’ll celebrate your creativity and diversity.
Here’s some classic outfits from our CommTrans crew!
The Classic Sundress. Ladies, these are pretty much a must here in Kona. Sometimes even shorts and a tank top don’t cut it here in the Hawaiian heat and a thin sundress will be your hero.
Sometimes the clouds come out, or it cools down at night, and you can break out the layers! We're not promising you that this happens often, but we take full advantage when it does!
Stripes, stripes, stripes. Not a lot more to say on this topic other than you’ll see your fair share of stripes on this campus.
The brave one, the one wearing jeans in Hawaii, sounds impossible but you’ll get there. We wouldn’t recommend bringing all your pants, but one pair won’t hurt.
