Let’s talk about fundraising!
So fundraising can seem daunting at times, and the biggest problem is usually just not knowing where to start. So here are some ideas that we have seen work!
My personal favorite, the good ol’ support letter. This is something you can send to anyone, family, friends, co-workers, church family, family friends...you name it. Type up a simple one page letter that starts with a paragraph explaining what you are doing and for how long. Explain the vision for what you are raising money for. Then clearly explain the different ways that they can give money to you. Include a picture of yourself! You can even follow up with the people that you send these letters to a few weeks after they’re sent for better results.
Ask in Person
This is the most direct route obviously, and usually has the most positive outcomes of any fundraising ideas. If you have a potential supporter you can ask them to meet up with you for coffee so you can explain your vision and purpose for asking them to financially support you. Make it clear this is what the meeting is about, don’t surprise them! This works great because it is personal and builds relationship with supporters.
Keep people up to date with what you are doing! Include them into your life and your mission with a blog (weebly and squarespace are good ones) or newsletter (through email or websites like mailchimp).
I’ve seen people sell things like journals & cards online, to garage sales & bake sales. If you’re creative or love hosting things, this is a great way to do what you love and make some extra cash! Make sure people know that this is going towards your mission work - it’s a fun way for them to give!
